revisions

I decided to tweak my process and include similar animations, like my previous posts but have subtle animations. This is a low quality file, in the beginning the dots are blurry and have shadows but do not look great in this post.

identity revised

This is the revised portion of the opening to my website. From the feedback I received, it would be best to tone down the animation and again focus on the uniformity and destruction of one's identity.

*destruction: the act or process of intentional destruction

process-identity

this is the beginning of my attempt to break down one's identity. i wanted this animation piece to resemble a strict uniform style.

MCA

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed viewing all the pieces exhibited at the Biennale
in the MCA. I was specifically intrigued by the full gamut of mediums utilized such as porcelain, cardboard, and steel to name a few. One piece that caught my attention was by Angela Ellsworth titled "Seer Bonnets: A Continuing Offense", displayed around the room were bonnets that were constructed from corsage pins but the needle is sticking inwards. This piece explains how women were suffering and under much control by the traditional women’s role in the house.

One artist I was really drawn to was Christian Jankowski’s video piece, "Live from the Inside." Jankowski works with television reporters to document various steps in the process of creating work for the Biennale of Sydney, which I found very interesting. I was intrigued to see the behind-the-scene thought’s of an artist especially because I had the opportunity to volunteer for two weeks at the Biennale, therefore I paid particular attention to hearing the behind the scenes comments. The piece also involved tableaux vivants, which is similar to a living picture. The people are still and do not move or speak. The main reason this was one of my favorites was how easily the audience could connect to the film. Jankoswki wanted to investigate the relationship between the artist and the audience and tried to figure out if the audience interprets the work the way the artist intended. As an designer I am always
wondering if the audience can understand my work and now I realize that artists exhibiting in the Biennale have the same thoughts and concerns.

Thibaud

I think this is a great site for animation. I like how the audience has the flexibility to click and drag the links all over the page. Also, the direction the links can be 360 degrees. This website is a simple portfolio website in theory but it is executed very well. The Belgium artist covers different mediums which include logo design to animation to interactives. The concept of the website is called youki which is available to the public and other artists or designers can display their portfolio similar to Thiabaud's.

inspiration

Here are some images that inspire me that contain circles. Many of the images contain large amounts of circles and look representative of a large and massive crowd. This is something I would like to replicate.

biennale

Over the past few days I have volunteered at the Biennale. I have worked with Choi Jeong Hwa installing his piece called Hubble Bubble which is located at the Sydney Opera House. I was able to get a grasp on this piece after helping creating and installing the piece. Hubble Bubble is about consumerism. The piece is constructed out of many baskets that are made of out plastic. In Korea, they are cheaply produced and commonly used to collect food. The baskets also consist of a bright green color that looks different based on the sunlight; sometimes they are glowing similar to a forest and representing nature. One of the memorable lines I remember Choi saying about Hubble Bubble, "the color is bright, but the message is not bright". We should be respectful and be appreciative of nature. Also the piece is relatively simple, a good message I should think about in my website. I don't want to the audience to be lost or confused in my concept. Currently I am working on an animation that would be an opener for the website.

transportation

I want to focus on the concept of being anonymous through different modes of transportation. As of now, I want to go select bus, train, ferry and plain, transportation I am exposed to in Sydney. These areas will be included in the home page. I am thinking the different modes of transportation will be cropped or included one drawing with rollover images and or animation on the homepage...sketches to come!

art or design?

Today was my first day volunteering at the Biennale. I was not so sure what I was going to do, but I was excited to work with international artists and designers. For the day I was working along side Serge Spitzer who is a sculpture and installation artist. For his upcoming piece located on Cockatoo Island his titled Molecular Sydney, which is similar to Molecular Istanbul, another famous piece for the 1994 Biennale in Istanbul. The piece is located in an old military base that is filled with small iron balls to give the impression of fluffy or rug-like surface, which is a contrast to the stone walls of the old building. While helping set up the installation I was thinking if this would be considered art or design? This could be interpreted as design as he is designing the space inside the room, by filling the room with the iron balls, that are only imported in Queensland. Again, the question is still being asked and when the Biennale opens in two weeks time, the debate will be brought up many times from the exhibitions that are on display.
